What’s OpenPD?

Plant pest and disease identification is critical and normally a slow process. OpenPD is a mobile app that provides an on-the-field and on-the-fly system for fast identification of plant pests and diseases. It is easy to use, based on open community and peer learning, supported by european funded ICT frameworks and our development.

How does it work?

You’ll begin by downloading and installing it.

An image is the key

User takes or uploads a photo of the plant part affected by the pest or disease. Coloured, clean and good resolution photos work better in this context.

Ask for help

The user describes the problem he’s facing based on the photos taken and his own observation of the local conditions. A good description drives the community to answer faster and objectively.

Receive feedback

The community provides help to the user in order to identify the pest or disease, including discussion, asking for more details or inviting other users to join in.

Follow OpenPD

User builds a list of favourites, including their posts and others that they wish to keep up with.

Alert me, please

Users can configure OpenPD to receive push notifications regarding their posts, posts from specific users or areas of interest.
